Meet Nicole

I'm Nicole Renaud, a Registered Psychotherapist, Registered Early Childhood Educator, and founder of The Therapy Hub. My passion is helping children and families feel more connected, understood, and supported through life's challenges.
My journey in a helping role began long before graduate school. For nearly a decade, I've worked alongside children, parents, and families in childcare centres, EarlyON and family resource programs, Indigenous family support settings, and mental health agencies. These experiences gave me a deep understanding of child development, attachment, and the vital role relationships play in emotional wellbeing.
Since 2015, I've supported children and caregivers through emotional, behavioural, developmental, and relational challenges. Today, my practice focuses primarily on supporting children, parents, and families. I help children navigate big emotions, build confidence, develop healthy coping skills, and strengthen their relationships with the important people in their lives. I also work closely with parents who may be feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or unsure how to best support their child's unique needs.
My work with children is play-informed and grounded in attachment, drawing upon my coursework from the Canadian Association for Play Therapy. I believe children communicate through play, behaviour, and relationships, and therapy should meet them where they are. Sessions are designed to help children feel safe, understood, and empowered while providing parents with practical tools and support that extend beyond the therapy room.
In addition to my work with children and families, I also support teens and adults navigating anxiety, grief, life transitions, self-esteem, and relationship challenges. Whether you're working through difficult family dynamics, healing from past relationships, strengthening communication, or creating healthier patterns of connection, therapy offers a space to better understand yourself and move forward with greater confidence.
My therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, and practical. I tailor therapy to each person's unique strengths, goals, and stage of life by integrating evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness, attachment-based interventions, play-informed approaches, and principles from the Gottman Method to support healthy relationships and communication.
I offer in-person therapy at The Therapy Hub in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, as well as secure virtual therapy throughout Ontario.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and a Registered Early Childhood Educator with the College of Early Childhood Educators. I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Family Studies, and a diploma in Early Childhood Education. I'm a member of the Canadian Association for Play Therapy and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
I have completed training in Child-Centered Play Therapy, Perinatal Mental Health, Walking with Grief, and am Level 1 Sand tray trained, and Level 2 Gottman Method trained. I am currently pursuing certification in Play Therapy and remain committed to ongoing professional development to provide evidence-based, developmentally informed care for children, families, and individuals.
